The Charity Commission for England and Wales is the statutory organisation which regulates charities. It gives advice and information regarding registered charitable status and checking abuses. The Charity Commission produce a range of leaflets and guidance notes relating to how to register as a charity, charity law, fundraising and responsibilities of trustees.  Their website includes a  searchable register of all charities in England and Wales.
