Fair Share (Stockton-on-Tees)

The Fair Share Trust is a Big Lottery Fund initiative to ensure that deprived areas receive their 'Fair Share' of lottery money. The broad aims of Fair Share are to:

  • build capacity and sustainability

  • build social capital

  • improve the local environment

The following three local key priorities have been identified:

Children and young people

  • Health issues and healthy lifestyles (emotional and social issues) - includes the requirements of older residents and quality of life within the community

  • Community linkages - increased capacity of existing community and voluntary organisations

Hartlepool Working Neighbourhoods Fund (WNF) Community Chest

Open to: VCS (either groups operating in Neighbourhood Renewal (NR) areas of Hartlepool or able to demonstrate that 50% beneficiaries reside in those areas)

Funding amount: £50 - £2,000

 

Replacing the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund Community Chest, the Fund’s objectives are to:

  • encourage employability and enterprise through education, training and development of income generation measures

  •  encourage greater involvement in local community activities

  • improve local community activity/organisation management

  • help community groups to improve their local neighbourhoods

  • help BME / other communities explore history, cultures and traditions, and promote racial harmony / community cohesion

  • support any other activities by which local VCS groups can contribute to regeneration of local area

Conditions on the funding include:

  • £150 max. for outings/social events (dependant upon beneficiaries)

  • £200 max. for activities for sports groups (dependant upon beneficiaries)

  • Up to £1,000 for running costs for new groups. 

  •  £500 max. for equipment/fixed assets

  • £1000 max. per financial year, for ‘Fun Days’ (open to the wider community)

Funding amount: Teeside (Redcar to Darlington): Up to £30,000 / Other areas with Santander/Alliance & Leicester branch: up to £10,000

 

This Fund combines initiatives previously undertaken by Abbey Charitable Trust, Alliance & Leicester and Bradford & Bingley. It is a rolling programme and funds one-off projects through capital or revenue (but cannot fund part of a major capital appeal). The Fund is for projects working with/for disadvantaged people through Education and Training or Financial Capability

Tender Opportunity: Care at Home Services (Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council)

The Council is developing a preferred provider list for the provision of a care at home service to be delivered to the people of the borough. The service will be

  • provided to customers where their care is being commissioned by the Council and customers who wish to use their personal budgets

  •  provided to customers who are ordinarily resident in the borough

  • assessed as requiring services and shall include all adults aged 18 and over who have a resource allocation

  • delivered 365 days a year and available 24 hours per day

The Older Peoples Partnership is the voice for older people which aims to ensure their needs are heard by public services. This opportunity is to be a support agency to develop the work of the Partnership. Objectives include:

  • Secretarial and administrative support to all Partnership Board meetings

  • Communicating regularly with the members via a news bulletin & email

Funding amount: up to £500 (group) / £200 (individual) per year (£100 max. for transport costs for university/college course)

 

The Fund is intended to provide a flexible and responsive resource used to support small-scale community initiatives.  The objectives are to help

  • improve the quality of life of NDC area residents

  • support NDC area residents in their pursuit of personal achievement (education / sport / art / personal development)

The Fund seeks projects which will have a lasting benefit. Projects which aim to tackle the following could be considered:

  • Assist access to employment and training

  • Reduce crime and the fear of crime

  • Improve community safety

  • Assist delivery of basic education and communication skills

  • Reduce alienation, encourage motivation, self-esteem, social skills and community pride

  • Encourage people to adopt healthier lifestyles

  • Improve delivery of advice on opportunities and support networks

  • Improve the environment

  • Motivate groups and individuals towards self-development/help

Open to: Schools, community groups and charitable organisations

Funding amount: £50 – £250 (retail cost) of B&Q materials


Eligible groups can apply to their local B&Q for funding to support a local community project (within a 20 mile radius of the store). Projects must be sustainable (and as such use materials and methods that will not cause environmental damage) – and support at least one of the following themes: conserve nature; save energy; grow your own; local culture and heritage.

Community Learning Champions Support Programme -

Development Fund (England – North East areas vary)

Phase 2 of the Fund is now open. The aim is to develop sustainable Community Learning Champion initiatives in disadvantaged areas / communities of interest or identity.

  • Gateshead

  • Hartlepool

  • Middlesbrough

  • Newcastle upon Tyne

  • North Tyneside

  • Redcar and Cleveland

Applications must be made by either local partnerships targeting activities on areas with high levels of educational need that meet one or both of the following criteria:

  • 10%+ Lower level Super Output Areas (LSOAs) in most deprived national decile on Education, Skills & Training domain (IMD2007)

  • eligible for Working Neighbourhoods Fund

  • national, regional or cross-regional organisations (in partnership) targeting groups currently excluded from learning

Limited funds are available; they anticipate funding a maximum of 15 new projects.

European Youth Foundation (Europe)

Open to: International not-for-profit youth organisations and networks

Funding amount: In 2009 grants ranged from around €2,000 - €22,000

(approx. £1,700 – £19,000)


The
fund supports European youth activities and will fund the following activities:

  •  Category A. International youth meetings - for youth leaders, including seminars, conferences, workshops, camps, festivals, etc

  • Category B. Youth activities other than meetings – study visits, studies, research projects and the production of information on youth issues

  • Category C. Administration of international non-governmental youth organisations and networks (closed for 2010, next round’s deadline is expected to be 1st February 2011)

  • Category D. Pilot projects

Organisations must register before applying.

 

Deadlines are as follows:

  • 1st April for Cat. A / B activities taking place between 1st January and 30th June of the following year and for activities to be held in co-operation with the European Youth Centres in the first semester of the following year

  • 1st October for Cat. A / B activities taking place between 1st April and 31st December of the following year for activities to be held in co-operation with the European Youth Centres in the second semester of the following year

  • 1st February - for requests for EYF administrative grants (Cat. C / C bis) concerning the current year

Fair Train extra funding for apprenticeships (England)

Funding amount: £2,500

 

Fair Train helps charities, social enterprises and other not for profit organisations to fund, recruit and train apprentices and will help these organisations secure government funding. It will match Fair Train training providers to charities / social enterprises that want to offer apprenticeships, and put not-for-profit organisations in touch with training providers who understand their needs.

 

Between now and the end of March 2010 the government is giving an extra £2,500 to the first 5,000 organisations that take on a young person aged 16 or 17 years taken on as an apprentice and offered on-the-job training. Heritage Lottery Fund - Young Roots (UK)

Funding amount: £3,000 - £25,000

 

Young Roots is a grant programme designed to engage young people with their heritage. Projects must relate to the varied heritage of the UK and:

  • provide new opportunities for a wider range of young people to learn about their own and others’ heritage

  • allow young people to lead and take part in creative and engaging activities

  • develop partnerships between youth organisations and heritage organisations

  • create opportunities to celebrate young people’s achievements in the project and share their learning with the wider community

  • create new opportunities for young people to either volunteer in heritage or gain skills in identifying, recording, interpreting or caring for heritage

Hilden Charitable Fund (UK)

UK Grants - projects addressing disadvantages, notably causes less likely to raise funds from public subscriptions. Particular focus on those addressing homelessness, asylum seekers and refugees, community based initiatives for disadvantaged young people and penal affairs. Preference given to supporting small community organisations with annual income of less than £200,000. Average grant in 2009 was £5,000.

 

Next deadline is 26th March 2010.

 

Summer Playschemes - for children from refugee and ethnic minority families. Grants of around £1,000 (c.20 awards made in previous years)

Home Office Victims Fund - hate crime (England)

Open to: Third Sector organisations (individual – no partnerships or consortia)

Funding amount: Up to £50,000

 

£250,000 from the Victims Fund will go to develop support for victims of hate crime for 2010/11 (f.year). Available to those working within 5 hate crime strands (disability, race, religion/belief, sexuality, transgender). Organisations must:

  • have track record in the effective development/delivery of relevant services

  • evidence of a high level of need for the service for which funding is sought

  • be financially robust and can evidence value for money

  • be supported by means of a letter of endorsement from an authority

  • have clear potential to build business capacity by addressing identified organisational development needs.  Project sustainability also considered

Funding must be used for a project that offers either direct support services that help victims of hate crime in their recovery, internal training packages/delivery for front-line staff  or training packages for external agencies. Legacy Trust UK - Community Celebrations (UK)

Type of funder: Charity

Funding amount: £750,000 (five grants will be given)


Grants will allow communities to come together to host 'large scale' outdoor celebrations at moments of real local significance in the run up to the Olympics. The celebrations should also relate to celebrations/festivals around regional, local or community interest. The intention is that the projects, after premiering in their home cities, will be given the chance to make their way to the five London Host Boroughs in July 2012. Any successful bid must:

  • enable artists/organisations to partner with more experienced national and international artists, producers and production teams

  • provide the infrastructure for artists, producers, production teams to share skills and experience across regions

  • ensure higher quality work is produced with bigger impact on participants and the public

  • enable artists and festivals to move from a regional to a national platform, and some national companies to scale up to an international platform

  • connect communities to the excitement of the 2012 Olympics / Paralympics

Partnership funding must be secured and a sustainability plan must be in place.

Although the Society’s principal activity remains grants to individual women, in 2010 they will again make £50,000 available for grants to other organisations.

The Refugee Initiative for Social Entrepreneurs (RISE) programme will support individual / small groups of refugees to set up projects that will encourage community cohesion and make their communities happier, healthier and safer. Projects must:

  • address a social problem

  • have a social impact

  • be a new initiative or a clear expansion of an existing project

  • be an opportunity to learn and gain new skills

  • need an UnLtd Award in order to succeed

BIG Lottery – Changes to Reaching Communities (England)

The following changes to Reaching Communities will be introduced in the Spring:

  • A new programme strand with simpler application / assessment processes will be introduced for applicants seeking up to £40,000 a year

  • A two-stage decision making process for larger bids will ensure all applicants learn sooner whether their project is in with a chance and for those invited to the second stage, the likelihood of success will be much higher

  • Introduced later in the year will be a capital stream offering funding for community buildings – likely to fund medium sized refurbishments, new builds or extensions to community use buildings

Charities working with vulnerable older people can now apply for grants for financial or housing related support. The Foundation will continue to make small grants for work that addresses financial and/or housing related support to survivors of domestic abuse. Grants of up to £5,000 are available to registered charities with incomes of under £500,000.

Sportsmatch

Sportsmatch is seeking applications for funding for 2010/11. Some changes to the criteria have been announced:

  • both revenue or capital costs are covered, however the maximum capital grant that can now be awarded is £25,000

  • capital projects involving construction, refurbishment or land improvement are not eligible for support

  • it is now expected that Sportsmatch will be allocated by Autumn 2010, so early submission of applications is encouraged

Sportsmatch offers pound for pound matched funding to investments made by businesses, trusts and individuals into projects that encourage sports participation at grass roots level.
